December 14, 2022: The Day Kevin Met Jesus<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t

Kevin knew the end was near.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

By late 2022, Kevin’s cancer was progressing.<\/p>

His condition was worsening, and he moved into Kris’s home so she could be closer to him and help care for him.<\/p>

Family members and friends began coming to visit.<\/p>

Everyone understood what those visits meant.<\/p>

Time was running out.<\/p>

Then the Road Dawgs came.<\/p>

They gathered around Kevin, spent time together in Scripture, talked, prayed, and shared fellowship.<\/p>

Kevin knew what was happening.<\/p>

He knew he was going to die.<\/p>

And he didn’t want anyone to feel sorry for him.<\/p>

He told them he was okay.<\/p>

He was going to be with Jesus.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The final conversation with Brian<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

There was one more remarkable chapter in Kevin’s forgiveness story.<\/p>

Ten days before Kevin died, Brian called him.<\/p>

Brian was still struggling to forgive himself for what he had done.<\/p>

Kevin could have used that conversation to express anger.<\/p>

Instead, he encouraged Brian.<\/p>

He quoted Scripture.<\/p>

He talked about letting go.<\/p>

He encouraged the man who had shot him to forgive himself.<\/p>

That conversation captures the transformation that had taken place in Kevin.<\/p>

The story had started with a bullet.<\/p>

It ended with forgiveness.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

December 14<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Kevin quietly and peacefully passed away on the evening of December 14, 2022, with his family beside him.<\/p>

For those left behind, faith does not eliminate grief.<\/p>

We still miss him.<\/p>

We still have moments when we wish we could call him, talk sports with him, hear his voice, or watch him do something he loved.<\/p>

But grief and hope can exist together.<\/p>

Kevin had spent twenty-eight years living in a body that had been dramatically changed by a bullet.<\/p>

His final years included surgeries, infections, recovery, faith, friendship, forgiveness, and cancer.<\/p>

Yet the final thing he wanted his friends to know was not that he was afraid.<\/p>

It was that he was ready.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A legacy of forgiveness<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Kevin’s story didn’t end with his death.<\/p>

His vision for Founded on Forgiveness continues.<\/p>

His testimony continues.<\/p>

His example continues.<\/p>

And the lesson he left behind continues to challenge all of us:<\/p>

What do we do with the things that hurt us?<\/p>

Do we carry them?<\/p>

Do we allow them to define us?<\/p>

Or do we surrender them and allow God to use our story for something greater?<\/p>

For our family, December 14 is a day of tremendous loss.<\/p>

But because of Kevin’s faith, it is also a day of hope.<\/p>

We believe Kevin didn’t simply lose his life that day.<\/strong><\/p>
